EMG Scan

Thermoscan
The skin, one of the largest organs of the body, is equipped with a network of vessels accompanied by dense nerve fibres.  It regulates body temperature by controlling blood flow within a few millimetres of the body surface.  The system is controlled by autonomic nerve impulses generated from within the brain, transported along nerve fibres, which pass through the spinal cord and out the many blood vessels within the skin and to the other body organs.

The themoscan measures differences either side of the spine, at each vertebral level.  The temperature at each level indicates the activity of the nerves.  Measurement differences reflect asymmetry in spinal nerve function.

The nervous system of the body is a complex messenger system. It transports information to and fro between the brain and every other system in the body.  Each level of the spine is associated with specific internal organs.  If there is abnormal nerve activity at any level of the spine, then the function of the corresponding organs may be interfered with as the messages may be distorted or interrupted.

The heat detection system used is liquid crystal thermography.  It detects body surface temperature.  It is non-invasive and totally safe and can be used with children and pregnant women.

Electromyograph
The EMG is an instrument that produces a graph of the electrical activity of your muscles.  When a muscle contracts, it produces a small electrical signal.  The harder the muscle contracts, the more electrical activity produced.  The EMG accurately measures these electrical signals.

Abnormal muscle function frequently accompanies spinal problems.  The information from the EMG helps determine the type of care that is best for you.  In addition, follow up tests will be performed to determine how your body is responding to chiropractic care.

Injury, nerve interference, or disease may cause abnormal muscle function.  As chiropractors we are concerned with abnormal muscle function associated with the vertebral subluxation complex.

The vertebral subluxation complex occurs when abnormal spinal mechanics results in interference with normal nerve function.  When nerve function is interfered with, muscles, blood vessels, and organs may malfunction.  Left uncorrected, this can result in pain, sickness, or disability and inhibit your body’s ability to express it’s full potential.

The EMG is a non-invasive procedure, the electrodes merely take a reading of what is happening in your body.  Consequently it is safe during pregnancy and for children.

The EMG combined with the themoscan provide an objective measure of the function of your body.  This differs from X-Rays which provide valuable information about the structure of your body.  These three procedures are important tools in building a picture of your health.
